River Crossing Cable-Stayed Bridge

Challenge

A wide river with an active navigation channel ruled out piers in the channel, and the riverbanks sat on deep soft ground.

Approach

• An options study of girder, arch and cable-stayed solutions with a life-cycle cost comparison.
• Deck construction by cantilever from the pylon, with no falsework in the river.
• Simulation of the cable stressing sequence, and sensors on cables and bearings as the basis of a digital twin.

Outcome

The navigation channel stayed open throughout construction, and the owner received a complete asset model with sensor data for condition-based inspection.
